Welcome!

This blog serves to display some memorabilia and to answer any questions, if we can, about Burny Bros. Bakery. It was inspired by a single post on Chowhound, which generated many email inquiries from those who remember fondly this former bakery.

  1. My dad, Lewis E. Porter worked for this company in the late 1960's. I often wondered what ever happened to the Jule Burney family. Pam

  5. We need a cookbook with Burny Brothers recipes. Number 1 is sugar cookies as mentioned previously. Chocolate chip cookies great too. Also streusel topped coffee cake. Also a breakfast bread with streusel topping - can’t remember the name but we called it yummy bread. Cream filled coffee cake we always got on Christmas. Have tried these things from bakeries all over Chicago and world but nothing matches. PLEASE!! if anyone has these recipes please release them before there are gone forever!!!

  6. My mom worked at the Randolph Street store and then managed the store by the Stockyards. She met my dad there. He kept coming in for bread until she agreed to go on a date. When she was going to have me, everyone wanted her to name me Rosebud after their cinnamon rolls.
